The first game since 2020 -27/07/21

Betws 8 v Laugharne 14

The first game since 2020.

Thank you to Betws for giving us a game in order to prepare and fine tune for our return to rugby COVID regs style. Sorry we turned up when you were half way through bailing.

Well a big welcome to our new players, some cracking youngsters that will be moulded by Gary (our coach who is back to full fitness), to play our fast open style of Rugby. With a number of our regular squad not able to play tonight and with Dorian Harris unable to commit to a full season due to work commitments , it was going to be a tough first game. Tomos Walters proped down with Captain Rhys Thomas, both had a great game. Rhys was on top of the new rules and was constantly making the ref and boys aware of them, giving us a few unexpected penalties, which Tomos Jameson put to touch in order to give our line out a bit of a test. With Tomos Rees (main line out jumper)not able to play it was down to Rhodri Rees , Carl Smith, Carwyn and Tom Waters to take on the line out options. Generally the ball going to Rhodri up front and anything else going to the back. Richie Waters providing the ball in the line out, had a good game and was looking sharp. His brother Tom (Congratulations on becoming a Dad) played eight and also put in a good shift.

The game was fairly open and it worked well for us, keeping it tight with the forwards didn’t really work for us but we did have some good carries. There were many changes made by Gary as he was keen to see what everyone had to offer.

First half it was Will Evans who opened up our scoring with a nice try close to the posts. Jameson converted to give us a further two points. A Further try was a classic individual effort by my son in law, father of my youngest granddaughter aka Adam Davies. With a few yards out, we were pressurising their line, he was able to wrestle the ball from a maul, sell a dummy and crash over. Again Jameson slotted it over. Betws were able to score one try and a penalty.

Final score 8 -14 to us.

Nice result.

Thanks to the players, fans, coaches and background staff for a nice start.
