Neyland 0 v Laugharne 33

Having lost two games on the trot, I decided to cut short my trip to Malaysia and return home to try and get things sorted!!!
So Saturday we traveled to Neyland for a regular tough encounter. We had played them twice already this season once at home and again in Neyland for a cup game. On both occasions we managed a win, but they were extremely hard fought and close matches.
The weather was good, with a slight breeze blowing across/down the pitch. Neyland were looking intimidating in their black livery as they made their way onto the field.
We had a few players unavailable, so a few of the boys had to play in positions they were not used to. But as normal we would rise to the challenge!! 💙💛
There was a minutes silence prior to kickoff.
From the kickoff it was clear that it would be a tough encounter. Both sides evenly matched. For the first few scrums Neyland were having the upper hand. But as the game went on we settled in and took over the scrum dominance. We were also able to dominate the line outs with Tom Waters putting in some accurate throws to Captain Tomos Rees. With dominance in the set pieces it was surprising that there wasn’t any score until twenty minutes into the game. Both sides had chances, but were unable to finish them off.
Our first score came from a scrum on the Neyland twenty two. Neyland contested well and had the shove on us but the ball was fed out from the back of the scrum to Adam Davies ( my son in Law) at scrum half, who took on the first defender down the blind side on the right hand side of the pitch. Tom Davies (the undertaker. playing fullback)came into the line and took the pass, stepping inside to go in under the posts for a lovely try. Tom Jameson got the conversion.
The game could have gone anyway as both sides were putting in a good effort. However ten minutes later from our twenty two, Owain at ten took a quick tap penalty and passed it out, he gathered again as the ball went to ground and a ruck was formed, picking up the ball and taking off down the middle of the field, jinking his way through tackles making it to their twenty two before being hauled down, Adam Davies was in support and got the ball back to Jameson who fed Richie Waters (playing centre), who took it on a few more yards and ten yards short of the line was tackled and unfortunately the ball was turned over. Neyland countered and attacked up the left hand side but were brought down before they could get out of their twenty two. The ball went loose and Adam picked up and passed to flanker Rhys Evans, who went over in the right hand corner for a fine try. Unfortunately it was too far over for Jameson to get the conversion, especially with the wind against him as well. (Not to far off though). We came close to scoring again from a line out and rolling maul, but there was to be no further score for the first half and we went in for halftime twelve points to zero in front.
The second half was a similar affair with no score from either side for thirty minutes, however both sides had opportunities to score. However the game was getting a bit tense, as both sides were found guilty of infringing. The referee was having none of it and started dishing out the cards. Jameson was given a yellow and had to spend what seemed like an eternity in the bin. But it was worse for Neyland as they imploded receiving yellow and red cards!!! Their chances now of changing the direction of the game had been drastically reduced.
That was made apparent as three tries were scored by Laugharne in quick succession. Jameson picked up the first. Adam taking a quick tap penalty just outside the Neyland twenty two, passed it right to Jameson who took it forward five yards before being tackled. The ball was quickly recycled and passed inside to Prop Dorian Harris, who battled his way forward another few yards, again the ball was recycled quickly and passed inside along the line where Carwyn, playing second row took on the charge. Several phases later we were five yards from their line, a little dart by Owain made a try almost inevitable. He went to ground just short of the line, but once again was well supported and Adam quickly slipped the ball outside to Jameson, who did a little step inside the defender to go over for a lovely try, just right of the posts, which he also converted adding a further two. Score 0-19.
Two minutes later it was Tom Tom’s turn. This time the move would originate from a turnover ball deep inside our half. Rhys Thomas passing the loose ball to Adam, who went right and carried the ball just short of the halfway line, drawing the last defender, he put in a lovely pass to Tom Tom, who ran in a cracking try under the posts (nearly caught though). Jameson duly made the conversion. Score 0-26.
Next up was Tom Tom (again!!!!)and it was only two minutes after his last. Neyland kicked the ball to the right, deep into our half. The ball was gathered by Carl Smith, who put in a lovely pass to Owain in the middle of the field, who passed it out to Tom Davies who came in at pace, was tackled, but managed to get the ball away to Jameson who passed it back inside to Owain who then went to ground. The ball was recycled and fed to Tom Davies again who made good yards again, before going to ground. Adam picked up and went right, drawing the defender and passing to Jameson just short of halfway. Jameson took off down the right wing and had Tom Tom outside him. He drew the last defenders and fed to Tom Tom on their twenty two. Tom Tom ran in to score right of the posts. Jameson, who had kicked well all afternoon, slotted it over. Score 0-33. With minutes to go Neyland picked up another card, but there was no further score and the game ended 0-33. A good win for us away from home.
Thanks to Neyland for a tough game.
