Well we traveled to St Davids on Saturday to play a much improved St Davids side to what we played last year.
St Davids is the smallest city in the U.K. And is the resting place of Saint David the Patron Saint of Wales. It was probably fitting that a new saint was made on this day. Saint Jameson, who managed to score seventeen points for us on this fine day. One try and the rest were conversions. There were a few changes to our normal starting fifteen, as some of the boys were away, with other commitments. However it was great that we could make the call to some of our other squad members. Ben Lloyd, Gary Jones, Dai Thomas, LeeThomas and Carwyn Jones taking up positions in the forwards. Gethin played scrum half, Saint Jameson moved to outside half, Tomos Davies and Tom Tom were centres. Jack Flanagan covered full back whilst Will Evans and Gareth Spiers covered the wings.
The first quarter of the game was like watching the Barbarians play (tickets still available by the way). It was fast, open play with every one of our players being involved, which resulted in Carwyn and Spiers scoring two lovely tries, Saint Jameson missing his only conversion after Carwyn crashed over. Carwyn was eager to join Tomos Rees and Mikey as part of the bloody nose crew and had to leave the field for treatment with Lou. Tom Waters coming on to replace him while he was treated. The rain was holding off and sun was occasionally breaking through and it looked like we could run away with it after Saint Jameson went over for a try which he duly converted. St Davids had other ideas and there pack were proving more than we had bargained for and they came back with a nice try, after pressuring us on our line for some time. which raised their hopes and made them attack once again. This time they put one up which rolled into our deadball and we had time to put it down, but in fairness to their number 10 he followed it up and scored. Making the half time score 19-10 to us. There was a special moment of the first half where we were under pressure on our line and we broke away down the left wing, with Will and Jack supporting each other from one end of the pitch to the other, with some amazing inter-passing Jack went over in the corner, which could have been the try of the season, only for the St Davids' lines man ( who was 30 yards away from play) to deem that a foot had gone in touch and the try was disallowed.
Time to up the game and after a constructive half time team talk from Gary the coach the boys were back at it. St Davids were not going quietly and putting up a good fight, but our backs were on fire. It wasn't long before Jack Flanagan finally went over for a well deserved try coming into the line on every opportunity, it was just a matter of time. Tom Tom followed with another and Saint Jameson converted them both. Next to score was Tom Waters, having come on for an injured Carwyn whose nose was bleeding so much that they had to use a tampon to stop the flow!!!! Saint Jameson slotted over the conversion. In the final minutes Tom Tom went over for his second and Saint Jameson whilst the boys celebrated, kicked the final points. Final score 47 -10 to us. Nice win. Thanks to Julie for the stats, thanks to our sponsors and thanks to our fans who were there in numbers.
