In memory of Graham Thomas

It is with great sadness that I learnt of the passing of Graham Thomas early last week. Graham was a very close friend to my mother (Lowri) and I and especially my father – Barrie John. That close friendship with Barrie emanated from the early days of my father at Swansea university, where he would return from university, to life in Laugharne. There among the many pubs, Graham would always ‘sub’ my father and say ‘c’mon Bar have another one!’

Then as time passed and my father emigrated across to Singapore he would always return with his young family and meet up with Graham once again – Dad would be the one to buy him a pint or two this time! My father never forgot the kindness and soft heart of Graham.

Following the untimely passing of my father in 1997, I would continue to visit Laugharne and in later years introduce my wife (Clare John) and my two young boys to Graham…the kindness and humour continued. I remember clearly Graham looking at my youngest (2yrs old at the time) and saying, ‘bring him back when he’s older, I’ll look after him then!’

In memory of Graham, my mother, brother, sister (Laura & Dafydd) and I would like to donate some money to Laugharne rugby club’s mini/junior section. The rugby club was very much at the heart of both my father and Graham and it would be fitting to help the club in a small way.

In the current climate that we live in, it puts life very much into perspective – Laugharne will always have this stronghold on you, and the family of ‘Laugharnies’ will never leave you.

‘Life’ was very much lived in both these men!
