Cardigan - 52 points to Zero!!

With the coronavirus now affecting the rugby world, we knew this week we would have to take some precautions with regards to yesterday's game against Cardigan. This job fell to our two committee members, Rob Thomas and Graham Gasp, who were doing gate duties. They would have to check people entering the ground just to see if they had any signs of the coronavirus. All was going well, until Twiggy turned up, he had a temperature and his breathing was erratic so the boys decided to ask for Dr Wilding's opinion on his condition. It transpired that Twiggy had just walked up Stoneyway!!!!

Well with our pitch dried out somewhat, we were back in business. In fairness to Cardigan they came down for an early kick-off on an international day. They appeared to be in much changed side from last season, with a lot of young players.
The weather was dry but a cold wind blew diagonally across the field, which was in our favour during the first half. And what a first half it was going to be. With a Owain injured it was down to Tom Jameson to play at 10 and he did a good job filling the big man's boots. From the kickoff we were looking dangerous and it wouldn't be long before Steff would go over for the first try. Boom seven minutes it took with backs playing some lovely rugby it was nice to see
Steff go over for the first. Matt followed with the conversion. We were looking sharp both forwards and backs putting some lovely moves together, straight up the middle, up the blind side, out the line, open play, we were everywhere and we weren't kicking much. There was so much ball in hand it was great to watch. Three minutes after the first, Mikey crashes over for another with a few of the pack giving him a helping hand. Next up was Jameson who was playing a blinder of a game. Putting in little dummies sidesteps, swerves it was a pleasure to watch.

Matt converted. We seemed to be able to attack from anywhere and with pace. Time for a bit of Jack magic, taking the ball down the blindside putting in a little dummy and going in under the posts making it a little bit easier for Matt to convert. Taking us into half-time with a score of 26 points to nil. Time to remove the glue from Rhodri Rees hands. It was either that or white line feever that stopped him passing to Steff in the first half!!! (Played a cracker though).

It was now our turn to face the wind and with Cardigan not giving up we needed to maintain the pressure. Their line out was performing well and they were still putting up a fight in the scrums. But three minutes in..... Boom!! Time for Tomos Jameson to rock up and score a superb individual try taking the ball deep in our half, he traveled at pace up the middle of the field, demonstrating all his moves on the way (still got his saint status). Matt converted but it wasn't long before he would need to kick again ( two minutes to be exact) as Steff Davies got his second. Attacking from deep again and with some lovely passing down the line, Steff was not going to be caught as he turned on the afterburners and went over close in to the posts. Thank you Matt for another two. Steff now enjoying himself decided that he needed his hat trick and seven minutes later goes over again and Matt converted AGAIN!! Our forwards had been awesome throughout the game, led by Captain Rhys Thomas they had worn Cardigan down and were camped out on there five yard line, just left of the posts and after a number of penalties that were awarded for scrum infringements but no penalty try awarded it was time to have a go on the blind side. Adam Davies (did I mention he is my daughter's boyfriend) had been quick with the ball all day passed it out and after a few attempts at the line, it was Mikey that finally went over for the try.

Final score 52 points to Zero!! 26 points the first half and 26 points the second half. Considering we haven't had a game for weeks the boys were awesome. Thanks once again to our coaching staff, our physio, our stats team (Sylvia today), Kelly for the cracking photos, Our sponsors Broadway Mansion and our fans.
