Laugharne 35pts Llangadog 32pts

On a sunny, warm afternoon Llangadog kicked off but once the ball was secured in the Laugharne 22 flyhalf Owain Thomas showed his intention to run the ball by breaking through  the unsuspecting Llangadog back line and running into the Llangadog half. With a neat diagonal kick to the try line fullback Thomas Thomas showed a clean pair of heels to follow up and score an unconverted try. There was a sense of urgency in the Laugharne ranks and in the 8th minute they went further ahead. Having his first outing of the season scrumhalf Gethin Earles hoisted a neat box kick from a lineout on halfway. Centre Mikey Williams was up in support and re-gathered the ball and finished the movement at the Llangadog posts with a try which was converted by co-centre Tom Jameson. Shell shocked Llangadog collected themselves and took the game to Laugharne and were rewarded for their efforts with a penalty by flyhalf A.Jenkins.

During this period Laugharne were reduced to 14players with 1 in the bin. Llangadog tried to seize the initiative but were repelled by a heroic defensive display from flanker Karle Williams and No.8 and skipper Carl Smith assisted by centre Williams and fullback Thomas. In the 27th minute and restored to a full complement of players Laugharne enjoyed the open spaces and from broken play fullback Thomas picked up the ball and backed his pace to race to the posts to score. Centre Jameson converted and Laugharne were comfortably ahead. But in the 31st minute Llangadog showed they were still in the game with fullback J Dodd picking up a dropped pass to run 35m to the Laugharne line to score. Flyhalf Jenkins converted and at half time Laugharne were not feeling so safe at 19pts-10pts.

Laugharne restarted the 2nd half and again were in the hunt for more points and more security, but LLangadog had other ideas and stretched Laugharne. If anything Laugharne were guilty of trying to open up from anywhere and sometimes being caught when a clearance kick would suffice. However in the 10th minute, again from broken play and aided by  a short kick ahead by flyhalf Thomas, centre Williams was at hand to cross for an uncoverted try. In the 12th minute centre Jameson pushed Laugharne ahead further with a penalty kick from the 22. From the restart Llangadog worked their way into the 22 and from a quickly taken penalty, scrum half Dylan Morgan scurried over for the try with the Laugharne defence in tatters. This try was converted by flyhalf Jenkins. This score proved to be the rallying call for Llangadog and they were soon on the scoreboard again. From broken play with Laugharne caught in possession flyhalf Jenkins kicked ahead to score and he then converted his own try. In the 22nd minute Jenkins brought the scores level with a short range penalty. However Laugharne skipper Smith rallied his pack and lock Gary Jones and prop Rhys Thomas together with flankers Barry John and Williams responded as they settled things down. From the restart, for their efforts they earned a penalty which Jameson duly converted. With the clock ticking down to full time Llangadog sensing a victory in their sights won a lineout in the Laugharne22 and with the drive skipper A. Walters was awarded the try, which went unconverted. With the final play of the game and throwing caution to the wind, fullback Thomas followed the restart and under Llangadog noses pinched the ball in flight and with lock Jones and flanker John and No.8 Smith thundering up in support Laugharne won the breakdown. Scrum half sub Gethin Jones got flyhalf Thomas away and with a neat kick into open space in the Llangadog 22 Thomas followed up to collect the ball to crash over for the `winner take all` try. The conversion attempt went wide but this heralded a real `get out of jail card` for Laugharne and doom and gloom for Llangadog.

Next week Laugharne travel to Milford Haven k.o.2-30pm for another testing encounter. Team coach to leave at 12-00 noon.
